However, this self study usually offers only generalized information. A trained Feng Shui consultant can come to your home and tailor the Feng Shui to your individual and personal needs. A weekend seminar or information culled from different books does not make a good Feng Shui consultant. A good consultant would have studied for some time with a reputable Feng Shui master and should have had a good deal of practical experience behind them.

Getting referrals from other happy clients would also be of help. A good Feng Shui consultant would not be in business for long if he/she were not good at what he/she does. In fact, the more years of consultations they have under their belt is also a good indication of their professionalism. You also must ask what school of Feng Shui the consultant follows, as there are many.

A Feng Shui consultant will visit your home but first they will need some information regarding you and your family. They will ask for birth dates and places of birth. They will also ask some confidential questions about your state of health, problems in the home, such a relationship or financial issues_ The last and most important thing that he/she will ask for is a diagram of your floor plan.  This is necessary to begin the preliminary diagnosis of your space. You would also be required to furnish details of when you built, renovated or repaired your house.

The consultant might ask about your environment. Are there tall buildings near your home? Are you near water, mountains, or do you live on a cul-de-sac? Is your home facing a T intersection?  The consultant will also want to know the placement of your bed, stove, staircase, desk, etc. Also, the location of bathrooms and garages are important.

Sometimes a good Feng Shui work-up can change your life dramatically, and at other times, you might experience more gentle subtle changes as time goes by. You must remember that Feng Shui is not a magic bullet that can cure all ills and chills.
